5. What part of the water line is the city responsible for?

The City is responsible for the water main lines in the right-of-ways. From the main to the house is the responsibility of the property owner.

6. What should I NOT put down the drain?

Thick sticky things like oil and grease can block drains and make water treatment more difficult. Strong chemicals, gasoline and other inflammable liquids should never be put down a drain. Heavy use of your garbage disposal can lead to a buildup of solids in the drains which may cause blockage. If a drain is blocked and does not respond to over-the-counter drain-clearing products or a drain snake, call a plumber.

7. What should I do if I smell sewer gas?

The most common source of sewer gas odors is from traps that have dried out because they are not used. Try pouring several gallons of water down unused traps, such as the manhole in the basement or the basement shower or tub. You can add a tablespoon of bleach to the water. If this does not solve the problem, contact the Public Works Sewer Division at (763) 572-3566.

If a street light is not working properly, you can report it online. We will forward the request to Xcel Energy who should repair it within 3-4 days. Other street light problems such as dim lights, broken street light lens, loose wires or pole damage can be reported the same way. Some repairs can take longer depending on the problem.
