Springbrook Nature Center Foundation Dinner Auction

Springbrook Foundation Dinner
Auction 2008 Raises $10,000

FRIDLEY ( March 29, 2008) – Friends and supporters of Springbrook Nature Center raised more than $10,000 at the fifth annual Springbrook Dinner and Auction. The fundraiser was sponsored by the Springbrook Nature Center Foundation, a non-profit corporation that protects and enhances the nature center.

All the proceeds will go for camp scholarships, instructional materials, planning for the SPRING Project and other improvements.

The event was country themed. Diners were entertained by Barbara Lee, who cracked jokes and, accompanied by Cheri Syke, sang swing era favorites. Fridley Mayor Scott Lund was the auctioneer for the fourth year in a row.

The Dinner Auction, which included both a silent and live auction, featured numerous products and services donated by business and individuals around the north metro area. Many of the businesses have been supporting Springbrook for all five years of the continuing fundraiser. Among the items that were auctioned was a Toro snow blower, a signed Will Steger photograph, a watercolor from the estate of Rose Totino, stays at northern Minnesota resorts, tickets to events, lunch for seven with KARE-11 meteorologist Sven Sundgaard, health and beauty services, sporting goods and libations. Two bat houses and wood duck house brought in a combined $150.

The Foundation particularly wishes to thank Barna, Guzy & Steffen and General Mills of Fridley, who provided corporate sponsorship. The event was held at the North Air Banquet & Event Center in Fridley.

One of the fundraising events was a spirited game of Heads or Tails, where people tried to predict the toss of a coin. The winner, Cindy Lund, center, received a check for $100 and promptly donated it back to the Springbrook Foundation.
